My workstation
I get asked frequently what I work on. Here's a list of my equipment:
Primary Workstation:
- Quad Core 2.66Ghz MacPro
- 24GB of RAM
- +2TB of internal hard drives
- Mac OS 10.5.8 at the moment
- 2 nVidia 8800 graphics cards
- 2 - 24" Dell Ultrasharp monitors
- 1 - 30" Apple Cinema Display Monitor
- 4 external hard drives used for storage and backup
- Airport Extreme Base Station
- Wacom Large Intuos 4 Graphics Tablet
Mobile Workstation:
- Dual Core 2.4Ghz 15" MacBookPro
- 4GB of RAM
- 500GB internal hard drive
- Mac OS 10.5.8 at the moment
- I do carry a small 4x5 Wacom Intuos 3 tablet in case it's needed
Software:
- Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium
- Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium + Indesign CS3
- Adobe Creative Suite 2 Design Premium
- Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium (I do keep all 4 versions of the Creative Suite installed because I'm often asked to send files in a specific version for compatibility.)
- BBEdit (text editing)
- Transmit (FTP)
- Microsoft Office 2008 (yuck)
- FontAgent Pro (Font management)
- Parallels 4 with Windows XP Professional (will be moving to Win 7 when it's released. I skipped Vista. Didn't see any point to it really.)
- And many, many other small applications.
I tend to upgrade computers about every 3 or 4 years if business permits. I should be due for an upgrade in 2010 or 2011. As things stand, I don't feel I'm lacking anywhere in terms of power and equipment. So, unless something drastic changes in the next year or two, I'll probably be sticking with my current set up for a while.
